Intersample clipping

Dear Mr. Tiki,

This time I just have a question.

I saw a video about intersample clipping. What’s the best way to prevent this in TuneBrowser? I saw a setting in the Asio preamp functions, clipping settings under preferences, and a 3 dB output level reduction in the pulldown menu.

Or, has this already been resolved in TuneBrowser in another way?

My Teac UD-701n DAC is set to upsampling and then converting to DSD. Perhaps it’s not a problem at all in this regard in my situation, and it’s just the distortion from the Loudness Warp I hear with music recorded at high levels.

I’m not entirely sure what you mean by “intersample clipping”. If you’re referring to clipping occurring during playback, I recommend the following settings in TuneBrowser:

• Calculate ReplayGain for the album.
• Lower the overall gain slightly to get head room (e.g., -3dB).
• Then select the following method for applying ReplayGain:
  • TreeItem: Playback settings – Playback settings detail – ReplayGain/Track Continuity
  • Property: On playback – ReplayGain mode
  • Value: AlbumGain/No clip

Thanks, I’ve set it up that way.

But I don’t think replay gain works with UPnP. There is a replay gain specified in the track at Qobuz, but not in the album metadata. I also see the Album Gain box only half-illuminated.

I do think the 3 dB reduction in gain is sufficient.

Intersample clipping occurs when two consecutive bits are at 0 dB. The calculated line then exceeds 0 dB. Measurements have shown that this can be as much as 3 dB.

Oh, yes. When other player device is playing via UPnP, TuneBrowser typically operates as a HTTP server.
