I think I can clarify the OPs (good) idea as follows:
If your playlist includes many tracks from many albums from many artists it would sometimes be very satisfying to play the tracks in the order that they were released “over the years”. Thus the session would perhaps evolve roughly to era of years and perhaps once a track from one artist is selected, all that artists (selected) tracks would play from when the artist was young to when s/he became old then older.
The point is, if we get a chance to have multiple/cascading SORT-ORDER selection parameters it gives all sorts of interesting possibilities/preferences. In other players this is done by holding down CTRL key when clicking the 2nd then 3rd etc fields.
